Developing confidence and self-esteem
"I really enjoyed getting out of the city every weekend and it was really good fun......."
There are no defining moments that express the transition from childhood to adulthood for our young people today and often very little support at such a challenging time. This combined with other challenges young people face, can result in young people losing sight of a vision for their future.
Our successful pilot project showed the difference the project made to the young people who took part and we were awarded funding which enabled us to recruit and train staff to run our first 12 week programme which began in April 2008.
Youth Vision provides young people with the opportunity to build self esteem, develop confidence and a positive attitude to aid their integration into the adult world. We achieve this with a unique approach which helps the transition to be understood and have a meaning.
We work outdoors at a farm outside Balerno providing a safe space to explore views, thoughts, expressions and feelings. Our therapeutic but fun outdoor experiences encourage them to become stronger people, establish their own identity as individuals and recognise the responsibilities that come with that.
